Spectacular artist book that features Gallic-inspired poetry by Jorgen Nash (in Danish) and twenty full-page lithograph illustrations by J.V. Martin. Nash and Martin were both members of the Internationale Situationniste until the “Nashist” scission of 1962.

Except from a never-published “social questionnaire” by Raoul Vaneigem. It was supposed to include 60 statements, but only 31 were written (or preserved?). Statements – to which respondents were to respond by ++ (strongly agree), + (agree), o (neither agree nor disagree), – (disagree), — (strongly disagree) – include: (3) War is inherent to human nature; (18) The death penalty is barbaric and ought to be abolished; (31) The concept of God is a a product of the human mind

It is not entirely clear how the answers were to be used….

Black and white photograph of young, smiling, 26-year old Raoul Vaneigem from late 1960. A few months before the photograph had taken, Vaneigem had written a letter to Henri Lefebvre, who put him in touch with Guy Debord the following year. He joined the Situationist International in 1961.

Invitation to the opening of the Maurice Wyckaert exhibition at the Galerie Van de Loo in Essen on 20 October 1960, as well as to the conference held by architect (and Situationist member) Attila Kotanyi on the same day. Text in german.

Wyckaert is best known for having been chosen to read the Declaration in the Name of the Fourth SI Conference to the Institute of Contemporary Arts, at the Institute of Contemporary Arts on 28 September 1960. “Wyckaert was also the founder of Flemish literary magazine Kunst Meridiaan, which ran from 1951 to 1960. In 1955 De Meridiaan founded Galerie Taptoe, an artistic centrum, exhibition room and literary café in Brussels” (Wikipedia).

Often viewed as a relatively “minor” figure in the SI, Wyckaert’s works and contributions were brought to light in Gérard Berréby & Danielle Orhan (éds), L’Œuvre peint (1947-1996). Paris: Allia, 2012.

DEBORD, Guy. Guy Debord, pour ses prochains livres…in L’Événement du Jeudi no. 329. 1 p. [in 130 p. magazine); ill; 21 x 32 cm.; ill. cover with photograph of Saddam Hussein.

Following his falling out with Gerard Lebovici’s heirs, Guy Debord is looking for a new publisher. He publishes a classified ad in the British Times as well as in French weekly  L’Événement du Jeudi in February 1991. The anecdote goes that Sollers, upon seeing Debord’s ad, sends the writer a blank sheet of paper on Gallimard — blank, that is, save for a giant question mark. By Spring, Debord meets and befriends Jean-Jacques Pauvert. The following year, in May 1992, Debord signs an official contract with the leading French publishing house.
